All of the video is in MPEG format for maximum compatability. Windows 95/98 has support for these files built-in. Or you can download the MediaPlayer from Microsoft.
Unfortunately, I had to keep the quality of the video fairly high due to the quick action out on the course. Otherwise they ended up looking very jerky. This means that the files are still quite large. I've tried to offer options for those who will download these from home with a modem, as well as those of you who are lucky enough to have faster access.
Depending on how your viewer is configured, you may start to download these and may find that the action will stop and start while the file is downloading. If you hit the Stop button in the MPEG viewer it will stop the playback and continue the download in the background. After the file has completely download you can hit the Play button to get a smooth playback. Or you can just leave it run, even though it is jerky, then hit Play again after it downloads to play it smoothly the second time.
Here is the best video, but also the largest. It shows the entire 88.7 second run from
inside the car, and is 320x240 resolution. Don't try downloading this with a modem unless
you start it when you go to bed. It will take a long time to download.
Delorean.mpg (20mb)
Here is the same thing, but at 160x120 resolution (1/4 the size of the other one). The
file size is still a little large, but should manageable.
ful160120.mpg (4.5mb)
This one is just the launch, through a couple of turns, and through the first slalom.
If you watched either of the full runs, don't bother with this. It's just a small piece
that I cut off for the bandwidth challenged. This file is the smallest size of any of the
in-car videos. It's also at 160x120 resolution.
qtr160120.mpg (slightly over 1mb)
This one is just like the one above, but continues on for a couple of more turns,
including a 180 degree sweeper.
half160120.mpg (just under 2mb)
Ok, now some video shot from outside the car. On my 4th run I took along DML member
Bill Swilley who was a little too late getting to the site to participate. Since he had
never autocrossed before I offered to take him along on my last run. My wife shot the
video from the sidelines. This video shows a section where I slid the car a little bit
before regaining control and continuing. This copy is at the larger 320x240 size.
DSlide.mpg (2.5mb)
And the same thing at 160x120 resolution.
slid160.mpg (1.2mb)
Hope you enjoy these! Next time we'll have more experience with the video to digital process and should have more choices and better quality.
